Hier haben wir einen Screenshot des MeSH-Browsers. Offensichtlich handelt es sich bei ihm um eine Windows-Seufzware. Die Seite beschreibt die Darstellungsweise ("Radial Tree"), geht auf Pro und Kontra ein, weist auf konkrete Implementationen hin, geht kurz auf Details ein und weist Referenzen aus.

ein schlechtes Bsp. für einen HTV

Beispiel für einen HTV, der nicht morpht und bei dem der die Postionen der angeklickten Knoten von den Positionen der schließlich hervorgehobenen deutlich abweicht: Nach jedem Schritt (= Anklicken) muss man erstmal mit den Augen das Fenster absuchen, um die neue Position des soeben angeklickten Knotens zu finden.

"Hyperbolic graph layout uses a context + focus technique to represent and manipulate large tree hierarchies on limited screen size. Hyperbolic trees are based on Poincare's model of the (hyperbolic) non-Euclidean plane. Experience non-Euclidean Geometry with Paul Garrett's applet! John Lamping, Ramana Rao and Peter Pirolli rediscovered hyperbolic spaces in 1995 for information visualization. Tamara Munzner at Stanford University developed a 3D hyperbolic viewer in her Ph.D. thesis.

The hyperbolic layout employs the following techniques:

• Radical Layout: Conventionally, trees are displayed on a Euclidean plane with the root at the top and children below their parents and connected to their parents with edges. The hyperbolic layout uses a radical layout. The root is placed at the center while the children are placed at an outer ring to their parents. The circumference jointly increases with the radius and more space becomes available for the growing numbers of intermediate and leaf nodes.
• Distortion Technique: Hyperbolic layout uses a nonlinear
  (distortion) technique to accommodate focus and context for a large number of nodes.
• Non Overlapping:To ensure that nodes do not overlap each other, hyperbolic layout algorithms assign an open angle for each node. All children of a node are laid out in this open angle.
• Refocusing: Transformations are provided to allow fluent node repositioning. Users can click on a node to move it to the center or to grab and reposition a single node."

A particularly concern is the implications that the expanded networked applications of thesauri will have on the development of the thesaurus structure and content to ensure that the thesaurus remains a useful tool for purposes beyond its traditional implementation.  Another concern is with providing networked thesaurus access to the analysts involved in building the database and maximizing the benefits of using the thesaurus in the database building process.  The CA Thesaurus is presently fully accessible only internally: on STN via the existing STN thesaurus software; via an Intranet web-based hypertext thesaurus tool; and via a couple of internally developed tools that partially integrate the thesaurus into the database building process. Was tun, wenn sich zu wenige Thesaurus-Visualisierung-Implementationen finden? -> Einschränken auf Visualisierer, die sich -weswegen- -wie gut- für die Visualisierung von Thesaurus-Strukturen eignen würden.

Überraschen könnte allerdings, dass es während der Recherche einen "Systemfehler" ("system failure") gab, und ich nach ca. 5 Minuten zwangsausgeloggt wurde. - Ich sprach von "überraschen könnte...", denn so wirklich überraschen wird das nicht. Bestätigt es doch bloß den bereits gewonnenen Eindruck.


Ausgewertet werden die Treffer erst, wenn ich endlich etwas zu essen bekommen habe.

Und, wie so oft, viele, viele Ergebnisse bekommen. Aber ich wollte die Google-Recherche ja drangeben, jedenfalls solange ich nicht weiß, was genau ich eigentlich suche - so wie bei Frau Quint, vgl. ältere Postings hier.

So, nächstes Ergebnis von DialogWeb abholen. Diesmal etwas schneller, bitte...!

Insbesondere die Kosten für die Zeit, in der ich eingeloggt war, fand ich ziemlich happig - verglichen mit der Leistung, die ich in Anspruch genommen habe und auch angesichts der Tatsache, dass eine einzelne Abfrage über drei Suchworte geschlagene 15 Sekunden brauchte.

Wirkt so ein bisschen wie Geldschneiderei auf mich. Aber so ist das nicht nur mit Monopolen, sondern auch mit Oligopolen...

So, nun zu den soeben noch via FINT gefundenen Seiten: Was davon ist mglw. brauchbar? ... Nein, ich glaube, ich bin gerade nicht mehr so sonderlich aufnahmefähig. Am vorigen Posting habe ich über eine Stunde gearbeitet.

zu Fachinformation in Köln (FH-Bibliothek)

Bei der FH Köln scheint alles, was zu Fachinformationen zählt, unter FINT ("Fachinformationen im Internet") gebündelt zu sein:

• die FINT-Startseite gibt Links zu weiteren mglw. relevanten Seiten: zu Informationswissenschaft, Informatik und fachübergreifenden Informationen
• innerhalb von FINT gibt es nochmal eine Verteilerseite, die entsprechend weitere Stellen aufzeigt

Ahhh! :-9 Das sieht ja sehr vielversprechend aus. Allein schon, wenn man sich die Top-Ergebnisse in der Google-Suche anschaut...

Obwohl es eine Art Medienbruch impliziert, ist der Hinweis aufs Hamburger Welt-Wirtschaftsarchiv (HWWA) aus digilinks0304.doc ("Neue Digibib-Datenbanken und -Volltexte, die im WWW frei verfügbar sind"; als HTML via Google) interessant bis relevant (mal sehen): HWWA-Firmendatenbank. - Mglw. läßt sich dort was zu den Anbietern von Thesaurus-Software finden.

zu Fachinformation in Köln (Universitätsbibliothek)

Eine Übersichtsseite der Bibliothek der Uni Köln weist zwei interessante Links nach:

• fächerübergreifende Informationen: Fächerübergreifende Datenbanken
  Links zu Zeitungen und Nachrichtenmagazinen, Nachschlagewerken, Kontakten/Adressen usw., sowie
• Fachgebiete von A - Z: Angebote der USB, der Universität und im Internet zu den einzelnen Fächern.

Daneben weist die UB auch Sondersammelgebiete aus, die aber für mich hier irrelevant sind, sowie Fachreferenten für Fachauskünfte, die ebenfalls für mich hier irrelevant sind.

Schön. Soviel zu den Katalogen in Köln. Wie sieht's denn mit erreichbaren (für mich hier relevanten) Datenbanken, Zugängen dorthin und Berechtigungen dafür aus?

• WebOPAC der Fachhochschul-Bibliothek, sowie des GWZs,
• Übersichtsseite der WebOPACs der Universitätsbibliothek
• Kölner Verbundkatalog: gleichzeitige Suche in den Online-Katalogen etlicher (wissenschaftlicher) Kölner Bibliotheken
• Verbundkatalog NRW: Bestandsdaten nordrhein-westfälischer Bibliotheken
• Karlsruher virtueller Katalog: 75 Mio. Bücher und Zeitschriften in nationalen und internationalen Bibliotheks- und Buchhandelskatalogen
• Zeitschriftendatenbank (ZDB-OPAC): weltweit größte Datenbank für Titel- und Besitznachweise fortlaufender Sammelwerke, also von Zeitschriften, Zeitungen usw., allerdings ohne Zeitschriftenaufsätze

So, dann wollen wir mal sehen. Offensichtlich kann man sich im Web "totsuchen", um was zu finden, weil man jedem kleinen Hinweis nachgehen muß: Aha, da oder dort, da könnte ja was dran sein. Etwas, was mir weiterhelfen könnte. Schlußfolgerung: Ich verlagere meine Recherche in Fachinformationsdatenbanken und Bibliothekskataloge. Dort sind die Daten wenigstens ordentlich aufbereitet.

...stellt sich die Frage, welche Datenbanken hier lokal überhaupt zugänglich sind, und wie die URLs der Bibliothekskataloge (OPACs) lauten.

Was ist IC Index?

(Exzerpt folgt unten.)

Mit anderen Worten:
IC Index 5.0 ist eine Software zum Entwickeln + Pflegen einer Terminologie, wozu AGI, der Hersteller von IC Index, neben Thesauri und Klassifikationssystemen auch Schlagwortketten zählt. IC INDEX wird seit 1982 angeboten.
